Suddenly Sol and Mani saw a totally black man in long black clothes slipping near with a group of helpers, that were just as
black, and in all silence they turned everything black: trees, bushes, shrubs, grass, flowers, even the birds and all the other animals, and all the stones, and indeed, even the earth.
Even to the moon they shot arrows and blackened it, and one was led to believe she was getting ill.

In this manner their busy doings caused an eclipse of the moon, and all of nature fell into a deep sleep.
Mani became very tired too, and she had the greatest trouble to keep her eyes open and to follow the spectacle.

With burnt-out, wonder-working mandrakes the blackeners opened the mountain; passing the mighty dragon they entered the cave, and turned it and the men, that were sunk in deep silence, all black.
